My constant quest is to identify and support companies at the forefront of innovation, particularly those dedicated to solving pressing societal issues. Whether it's in a specific industry or for the betterment of humanity as a whole, I am drawn to companies that have the potential to enhance efficiency, prevent injuries, save lives, develop cures for diseases, or offer solutions to significant problems. While the challenges facing humanity are numerous, innovation instills hope. No single individual can tackle all these problems. Still, the collective efforts of innovative companies can make a significant difference in our lives with the products and services that solve big problems and by inspiring us with the potential impact of their work.
I don't have the intellect to solve all the world's problems. No one does (except maybe Elon Musk; that man is truly remarkable). However, if you identify a problem, rest assured that someone out there is fixated and focused on solving it.
These innovators often press forward to find a solution when repeatedly told; You are wasting your time; it will never work; it is impossible. They are willing to risk everything, including friends and family nest eggs, because, in their minds, they never doubt that they will find a solution. They believe that when they do have a solution, the world will instantly adopt it, and the innovator, their friends, and family will all be rewarded handsomely. When the friends and family nest egg runs dry, these companies decide to go public. The lure of the public markets is that these innovators can find people who understand the problem they are addressing. These astute investors will join the cause and help the company achieve its mission.
Unfortunately, the public markets bring a whole new set of challenges. Between the SEC mandates and restrictions and the changes implemented to make being a publicly traded company for small and microcap companies more complex, raising the bar to maintain a compliant listing, the exchanges raising their fees, unscrupulous financial institutions, algorithm high-frequency trading, naked short selling, the sheer size of the funds and institutional investors, the ignorance of retail investors, and the lack of favorable financing options with good terms make the road to success very challenging. Then, it is always a shock to learn that spending a ton of money and time to solve a problem. A problem that said couldn't be solved. Yet, once a solution exists, skepticism, doubt, and disbelief keep it from being accepted.
These early adopters, the pioneers who bring innovative and creative solutions to the world after years of honing their craft, play a crucial role. Their solutions, however, often need help to gain traction due to our herd mentality. As humans, most of us are resistant to change. Statistics show that only thirteen percent of the population is considered an early adopter. No matter how compelling the attributes are, it doesn't matter how much safer, efficient, or more environmentally friendly they are. None of those things move the needle because it requires people to step out of their comfort zone and change their behavior. Yet, these early adopters have the potential to shift the tide and pave the way for broader market acceptance. Companies must see the adoption curve increase to fifteen to twenty percent of the population.
Reaching this level can generate increased visibility and influence among the early majority, crucial for sustained growth and market presence. Effective marketing and communication strategies play a vital role, as they can help bridge the gap between early adopters and the early majority, making the product or innovation more appealing and understandable to a broader audience. Your role in this process is significant, as your understanding and advocacy can help these innovative solutions reach a wider audience.
Total market adoption is around 70-80% of the target market. This range indicates that most potential customers have embraced the product or service, leading to widespread acceptance and usage. Achieving this level of adoption signifies that a product has become a standard in the market, moving beyond niche appeal to mainstream acceptance.
In order to bring this vision to life, we need to increase awareness about the company's mission. The innovator and the company need to make people aware of the sacrifices made, hurdles overcome, and the hard work that went into solving the problem. Share the determination it took to get there, and most importantly, let everyone know why the company and its founder created this opportunity and never gave up!
There are a massive amount of companies that seek individuals who understand their work's importance and benefits. This effort requires support from those who are willing to invest in the cause or serve as brand ambassadors, advocating for change and promoting the exploration of promising innovations. Leaders of industries and influencers need to step up and assist these innovative companies in validating their claims and products so that others will also join the cause and help push for that widespread adoption. Encourage our innovators. Show everyone that we can make an immensely positive impact when we come together for a common cause.
It will likely upset someone to read that many people like to hop on the bandwagon and complain about a problem. Very few people will take action to fix a problem. Even when a solution becomes available, they will stick with doing what they have always done or critique the solution before even giving it a try. Some suggest that they would have done it a different way. My question would be, why didn't you?
Taking action to address and solve expensive problems that negatively impact the planet, countries, municipalities, environment, health, or, in some cases, threaten the existence of humanity can set off a positive ripple effect that benefits everyone. These actions are the most important things we as a society can do. Reflecting on the past and learning from our mistakes is okay, but dwelling on it won't benefit anyone. Our focus needs to be on the present and the future. I encourage everyone to take a hard look at themselves and decide if you are someone who helps to build things up, and tries to have a positive impact in this world. Or are you someone that spends their time tearing things down? I have found that life is much more fulfilling when you are helping others.
